Katie Walsh, shown with her son Conner, was selected to be Mom Prom Queen during the 2008 Mom Prom. In addition to a rhinestone tiara, the queen received a basket of facial products from Jen Rose Skin Care. The queen was selected on the basis of her prom dress, overall style, charisma, and popular vote of the judges' panel.

This was a special, area-wide, semi-formal evening for moms and their sons and daughters of all ages. The evening was complete with decorations and balloons, old-fashioned cookies, cupcakes and popsicles, wholesome music by DJ Dawn Becker, corsages, prom photos, and lots of admiration for the mom in the family -- all to benefit great causes in our area served by Rudd's nonprofit 501c3 Community Action Team (CAT). Upcoming CAT events include the 30-Minute Beach Cleanup on June 21 and the 4th of July Kids Bike Parade. Photos by Justin Rudd.

Jen Rose of Belmont Shore had two young dapper dates to the Mom Prom.

Rosalie Norquist and her son Merle Jr. and daughter Madison won first prize in the dance contest held during the mid-point of the two-hour Mom Prom in Belmont Shore. The moms and kids had to dance to four various types of dance music (including fast and slow selections) for approx. 30-seconds each.

Youngsters enjoyed fruit popsicles to help cool down as the dance floor heated up at Sunday's Mom Prom.

The conga line snaked around the dance floor during the Mom Prom held the Sunday following Mother's Day.

g FOR CHARITY
Ask Your Sons & Daughters to the Long Beach Mom Prom
The Community Action Team's (C.A.T.) 2nd annual MOM PROM will take place May 2009 from 5-7 p.m. at the expansive, carpeted community hall of Bay Shore Church on The Toledo (@ Nieto Ave.) in Belmont Shore.
PROM QUEEN PRIZE
Every mom will be adored, but one will be adorned with a crown when she is selected to be the Mom Prom Queen. The titleholder will be selected from the participants on the basis of her prom dress, over all style, charisma, and popular vote. She'll receive a gift bag of facial products from Jen Rose Skin Care.
Event founder/organizer, Justin Rudd hopes to raise more than $2,000 for his nonprofit 501c3 Community Action Team (C.A.T.) that supports local youth, animal and environmental projects.
This will be a special, area-wide, semi-formal evening for moms and their sons and daughters of all ages. The evening will be complete with decorations, old-fashioned refreshments, wholesome DJ music, and lots of admiration for the mom in the family -- all to benefit great causes in our area.
Lots of mother/child couples are expected at the two-hour event dancing to party classics provided by DJ DanaT, who will donate her time and talent for the fundraiser. Music will include dance hits like "Livin La Vida Loca", "Hokey Pokey", "Chicken Dance", "Conga", and "Electric Slide."
COUPLES will enjoy refreshments provided by C.A.T. Couples will also enjoy complimentary digital prom-styled photos by Justin Rudd and other photographers.
PRIZES will be awarded to winners of various contests throughout the night, including dance contests that will be held for the moms and kids.
Mothers have an opportunity to take their sons and grandsons, daughters and granddaughters out for dancing to party classics. If the mom is unavailable, children may also be escorted by a significant lady in their life (i.e. godmother, grandmother, aunt, or other adult relative).
There is no age requirement, so young and old are able to enjoy the evening.
Bring your own camera, too!
Volunteers are also needed for setup, takedown, photography and refreshments. Contact Justin@JustinRudd.com.
My child hasn't asked me yet. Now what?
Don't worry. Most kids don't initiate the invitation. It's appropriate for moms to arrange the "date." Kids (especially the boys) may not appear enthusiastic for the event, but the evening will be fun for all moms, sons and daughters.
What do we wear?
Boys should wear dressy shirts, (coat and/or tie is optional) and nice trousers -- no jeans or shorts. Moms and daughters can wear dressy slacks, pantsuits, skirts, semi-formal or formal dresses.
